2026-07-29 implementation review: this overlaps #39 and is best treated as its focused regression-test slice, not as a second sizing design. The remaining decision is issue organization only: close this as a duplicate after copying its fill/buffer regression matrix into #39, or retain it as a child test ticket. No separate DataGrid behavior should be introduced here.
